Finishing Options
Primer Only
A primer-only finish provides a basic layer of rust inhibition, preparing the metal surface for further painting or coating. It’s a budget-friendly option for those planning to apply their own topcoat shortly after delivery. However, long-term exposure to moisture or the elements will require an additional protective layer to prevent corrosion.
Primer & Powder Coated
Combining a primer underlayer with a powder-coated top finish offers superior protection compared to primer alone. The primer bonds to the metal, while the powder coating delivers a durable, chip-resistant outer surface. This finish is ideal for mild outdoor exposure or indoor installations that demand a refined, even color without the extra step of galvanizing.
Galvanised Only
A galvanized finish immerses the metal in a zinc bath, forming a protective layer that resists rust and corrosion. It’s popular for outdoor applications where long-term durability is crucial, but it has a metallic-gray appearance that some may find less appealing as a decorative finish. Galvanizing typically lasts for decades in most weather conditions.
Galvanised & Powder Coated (RECOMMENDED)
For the best of both worlds, we galvanize the metal first, then apply a powder-coated layer on top. Galvanizing protects against rust and corrosion at the base level, while powder coating adds color, smoothness, and an extra shield against the elements. This finish is highly recommended for outdoor gates, railings, and metalwork exposed to harsh weather, combining longevity with a premium look.
Unfinished (Mill Finish)
Mill finish is simply the raw steel as it comes from the mill, with no coatings applied. It’s typically chosen by clients who plan to handle their own finishing or who want an industrial, unfinished aesthetic. However, it will corrode if left unprotected in humid or wet environments, so indoor or short-term outdoor use is recommended unless further treatment is applied.
